Numerology explores contemplation through numbers. It is ancient knowledge used by early civilisations for many purposes. Its earliest sources come from Egypt, Mesopotamia, India and Babylonia, including Egyptian papyri and Chaldean clay tablets.
Its origins are difficult to establish. Some believe this knowledge was left to humanity by the Atlanteans. It has existed since time immemorial. Surviving works by Greek philosophers Democritus, Plato and Pythagoras show their interest in these subjects.
Pythagoras, from the Greek island of Samos, was a traveller, philosopher and mathematician also drawn to esoteric studies. He established a school of esoteric knowledge and personal transformation in Italy, laying foundations for modern Western numerology.
